Cover Bike & Cover Model Search at Blue Springs Harley-Davidson

Written by  June 29, 2016

Blue Springs Harley-Davidson was the location for our first cover bike & cover model search of the riding season, which took place on Thursday, June 9, 2016, and coincided with their monthly bike night.

Stripe, Lonnie, Melissa, Randall, Dick, Nichole, Skylar, Dustin, and I arrived early to setup our booth and to block off a section of the parking lot for our cover bike search. Shonna with Blue Springs Harley-Davidson showed us where to setup, and introduced us the band so we could work out the details for using their microphone for our cover bike and cover model search announcement.

Before we had everything setup, several bikes had begun arriving and entering the competition. Nichole was busy as usual signing up bikes for our cover bike search and recruiting girls for our cover model search. One of our advertising partners Ben Schmitt with Schmitt Mulhern, LLC Personal Injury Attorneys was out of town, but he still managed to get us several of his T-shirts, bandanas, and other swag to give away, which everyone loved! Thanks Ben!

A large tent and stage was setup in the grass in front of the service department where the band Interstate 49 was getting ready to play, and Tommy G's food truck was parked nearby. There was also a covered area full of tables and chairs where guests could sit, eat, and get out of the sun. I was told the food was awesome...and "free," but unfortunately I didn't have time to try it out. A beer stand was also setup nearby, so what more could you possibley ask for?

Throughout the evening, more and more bikes kept rolling in, and before long, the parking lot was filling up, as was our cover bike search staging area, which we had to keep expanding. Lonnie was busy taking photos as Randall “Sea Hawk” Hauk, our videographer, was busy shooting footage for our Cover Bike & Cover Model Search video.

By the time we cut off our cover bike and cover model search registration, we had lots of awesome bikes entered as well as several gorgeous ladies who had signed up to compete in our cover model search. Once the bike search registration was closed, the judges began the task of narrowing down the bike entries to their top three choices. Once the cover bike voting was complete, I used the band’s PA system to introduce the cover model search contestants to an excited crowd. As I introduced each contestant, they made their runway walk across the parking lot in front of the bikes. The girls posed for a moment so everyone good get some good photos, and so the judges could compare notes to make their top selections. The judges handed me their votes for the top cover bike and cover model search entries, and it was time to calculate their votes and announce the winners.

The cover bike search winner was Matt Kozak’s 2000 Harley-Davidson Heritage Springer, and the two cover bike search finalists were Claude Chation’s 1967 Honda CB160 and Todd Ashe’s 2008 Yamaha V-Star 1300 Monster Glide.

Next, it was time to bring the girl’s back out to a cheering and excited crowd. We had so many beautiful women in the contest it was difficult to pick the winners, but after tallying up the judges’ scorecards, Kara, from Kansas City, Missouri took first place, Brianna from Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Mandy from Kansas City, Missouri tied for 2nd place, and Sabrina from Blue Springs, Missouri took 3rd. Therefore, we’ll be shooting Kara on Mark’s bike for an upcoming cover. We also plan to try and shoot several of our other cover model search contestants in the very near future!

We then had the cover bike winners move their bikes to a location at the other end of the parking lot so we could take photos of them with their bikes, and so we could also take photos of the cover model search winners on the three winning bikes. Randall also video-taped the photo shoot, which is always a fun thing to watch.

We had a great time, and I want to thank David, Shonna, and the entire crew at Blue Springs Harley-Davidson for hosting a great bike night and for helping us put together an awesome cover bike and cover model search. I’d also like to thank all the bikers who attended the event, as well as the cover bike & cover model search participants who joined in the fun.
