12th Annual Las Vegas Marine Riders Toys for Tots Poker Run

Written by  November 29, 2016

The 12th Annual Las Vegas Marine Riders Toys for Tots Poker Run was held on November 5, 2016. The Las Vegas Marine Riders were looking to break the 2015 Toys for Tots donation total of $21,000. Did they do it? Read on to find out!

This was a special gathering hosted by the Las Vegas Marine Riders, as well as others who attended, including Marine Riders chapters from Michigan, Indiana, Utah, California, Arizona, and Nevada. Seven of the eight Marine Rider Chapters were present for the Toys for Tots Run.

A mind-boggling 450+ riders registered for the event, and over 500 people were at the final stop to help support the Marine Riders!

The run started at Railroad Pass and it got busy, busy, busy! The Marine Corps Reserve Unit was there with their “BIG TRUCK” to collect the Toys. Everyone was donating toys, and purchasing 50/50 tickets, extra poker run hands, raffle tickets, gun tickets, and whatever else was available to help support Toys for Tots.

The first stop was the Las Vegas Distillery in Henderson, Nevada. Owner and Master Distiller George Racz welcomed all the riders with open arms! Las Vegas Distillery had just celebrated their 5th anniversary, and has the distinction of being the first distillery in Nevada. Of course, samples of their Moonshine, Grandma’s Apple Pie Moonshine, Whiskies, Rum, Vodka, and Gin were available for the riders.

The second stop was Blue Hawk Tavern on South Las Vegas Boulevard, which is a very nice bar with a great atmosphere and great service.

The third stop was Pioneer Saloon in Goodsprings, Nevada. This Historic 100+ year old bar is the ultimate in Wild West saloons, and a great place to visit.

Findlay Cadillac was the “optional” stop, and most everyone stopped there because you got an extra card for the poker run.

The final stop was the Leatherneck Club Home of the Marine Riders! This is a MUST visit place if you are in the Las Vegas area, especially if you’re military or a patriot. They have a lot of museum-quality Marine treasures from many of the wars and campaigns in which the Marines have fought.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Ghost, Google, and Flash (owners of The Leatherneck Club). The dinner was delicious and the service was exceptional as usual!

Another THANK YOU to the Marine Riders, their Ladies (the Ladies put in a lot of time and effort for the run,) volunteers, and all the sponsors for making the 2-16 Las Vegas Marine Riders Toys for Tots run a humungous success!

On November 10, which was the 241st birthday of the United States Marine Corps, the Las Vegas Marine Riders presented Toys for Tots a check for $30,000! This year’s donation SMASHED last year’s total!
