F.O.G. Cycles Two-Day Street Party

Written by  October 31, 2004

If you haven’t been to F.O.G. Cycles or the Knuckleheads
Saloon, you must be living in a cave or under a rock. This unique bike shop and saloon is by far one of the best in the Kansas City area. It reminds me of a cross between the Broken Spoke and the Full Throttle Saloons in Sturgis.  What’s really cool is that you don’t have to ride to Sturgis to experience it. This two-day event is just one of many held at F.O.G. throughout the year.  The first one was in 1997 and they are planning for at least six in 2005.  Owner, Frank Hicks and company are well known for their graciousness and warm hospitality which always attracts a huge biker and hot rod gathering. This street party was
no different. When Frank throws a party - Frank throws a par-tay.
The party started off on Friday with the grand opening of
Darkwood House, a F.O.G. Cycles sponsored Haunted House with Ron Teamer and the Smoking Guns on the main stage outdoors. On Saturday, a professional DJ spent the day cranking out some cool tunes during the People’s Choice bike contest. And as day turned into night, everyone gathered in the yard for some kick-ass blues by N-Ka-Hoots and the Elsa Smith Blues Band.
Both nights we were entertained by a Janet Jackson impersonator (no it wasn’t a Superbowl reenactment) and a dance troupe headed by
John Kelly who recreated the Michael Jackson Thriller video. Wacko Jacko would have been proud.  Of course, there were various vendors hawking their wares like Betty Boop from Starz Leather www.starzleather.com and Chris Cofield of CC Custom Graphics

www.cccustomgraphics.com showing off his excellent painting skills. Not to mention the Cycle Connections staff giving away T-shirts and coozies.
A big congratulations goes out to Tom Eddy, who won for
Best in Show at the bike show. And as Tom’s bike states, he 'Got Sum!’  Check out Dave’s Tech Tip article in this month’s issue featuring Tom’s Supercharged Harley.
Well, Frank likes to keep his party goers engaged and
thoroughly entertained and had come up with some pretty cool games to play. For example, see who could Hoola Hoop the longest and my favorite, “Kick the Bucket.”  This game consists of four teams of four. You start off by layering a team across four plastic buckets in a crosshatch pattern and then start to remove the buckets one at time to create a human tripod until your backs, heads, arms or legs give out. It’s hard to explain so make sure you check out the pictures below and you’ll see what I mean. Cycle Connections special assignment writer Goldie Arnold and her team of gals beat out the guys and the other mixed teams. Way to go Goldie! And of course, Frank had prizes for all the winners of
the F.O.G. Cycles Street Games.
This place just keeps growing. Over the summer, Frank has
modified the yard seating area by installing a roof over one section and just a couple of weeks ago, enclosed it all with removable walls and added ceiling fans and heaters. In the spring and summer he’ll just take them down for some natural ventilation. So if you think the party ends in the winter, you’re sorely mistaken. This has opened the place up to accommodate another 175 bikers and party goers in comfort so if you can’t ride in, just drive and you can still party and listen to some of Kansas City best blues artists all winter long. Plus you can’t beat the 75 cent tacos and buckets of beer specials. And that’s not all. Knuckleheads now has four stages, two inside and two outside, so the music never stops.  As one band finishes, another one starts.  On that note, you may
not know this, but F.O.G. is getting quite a reputation from the blues community for featuring both local and national top blues artists and has been spotlighted in the Kansas City Blues Society magazine and even on TV!
News Flash:
Back by popular demand is F.O.G.’s Members Only Club. For
only $50 a year, you’ll get a special Members Only shirt, 10 percent off all F.O.G., Knuckleheads and Showme Choppers logo signature wear, 10 percent off any special order part, invitations to Members Only parties, free admission to all of the street parties, and 10 percent off labor at any private party you throw at Knuckleheads. Whew! Yes, you can even reserve the Knuckleheads yard or interior for your private event or party (no membership required for that though, just a desire to party). Plus, I have also been told there will soon be a VIP room for Members Only. Count me in Frank.
And there is even more good news, everybody’s favorite
counter jockey has returned to action, so let’s all welcome back “Radar” into F.O.G.  With a name like “Radar,” he’s sure to track down what you’re looking for.
If you missed this awesome party, don’t worry just keep
pointing your mouse to Cycle Connections rally and events page as Frank keeps pouring it on. Or just come on down to F.O.G. Cycles and the Knuckleheads Saloon and check out the new additions, listen to some great blues, eat, drink and beat Larry. You Knuckleheads.
