Victory Racing Team to Compete in NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle Class in 2015

Written by  January 24, 2015

Victory Motorcycles will join the competition in NHRA’s Pro Stock Motorcycle class for the 2015 racing season. The Victory team’s riders will be two-time champion Matt Smith and his wife, Angie. “Victory is excited to enter the world of NHRA Pro Stock Drag Racing.” said Steve Menneto, VP Motorcycles for Polaris. “It is Victory’s intent to continue to test ourselves at the highest levels and the Victory Factory Racing Team is the perfect opportunity for us."

The NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle season opens on March 13th at the Amalie Motor Oil Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida. Victory wil have hospitality areas at NHRA events. Victory approached NHRA during its fall event at The Strip in Las Vegas, and the process of getting the required approvals for the Victory pro stock motorcycle design began. The Smiths were chosen by Victory from among three teams that were considered. The bikes will be patterned after the Victory Gunner model. Gunmetal gray will be the main color for both of the team’s motorcycles with Nitro Fish logos on Matt’s and Kandy Magazine on Angie’s. Additional support for the team will come from Stockseth Racing. The first track testing of the bikes is scheduled for mid-to-late February following wind tunnel testing in late January.

Matt won championships in 2007 and 2013 and has 17 career wins in 38 final rounds. His career best elapsed time is 6.793 seconds and his best speed is 198.32 m.p.h. He finished the 2014 season fourth in points. Angie finished ninth in 2014 with her only career event win so far coming at the Auto-Plus New England Nationals in Epping, New Hampshire where she defeated her husband in the final round. This was the first time an NHRA professional final round was contested between husband and wife. Angie’s career bests for e.t. and speed are 6.846 seconds and 195.22 m.p.h., respectively.
