Readers and their Rides

Erin Doleshal and Her '02 American Ironhorse Tejas

Written by  November 30, 2005

I met Erin Doleshal and her husband Jay after one of Jay’s races. She stands by Jay in his racing endeavors and is always there to support him. Having a custom motorcycle that is not only fast, but awesome to see, is one thing every biker could only hope for. During this interview, Erin didn’t think she was worthy of the spotlight, however, the way she handles her bike, I can think of no one else who deserves it more than her. So to all of you ladies out there who ride your own bike, here is another thumbs up for the recognition you all deserve.

CC: Jay, what is your occupation?
Erin: I’m a Radiological Technologist.

CC: Do you have any hobbies other than motorcycling?
Erin:Yes, I enjoy playing with my three dogs, decorating, sewing, crafts and reading.

CC: Why do you ride?
Erin: Ever since I’ve known my husband, he has had a motorcycle, I thought “I can do this.” So I took an MSF class and loved it! I then bought a motorcycle the weekend I finished the class.

CC: How long have you been riding?
Erin: About 3 1/2 years.

CC: What was your first bike?
Erin: It was a Honea 750 Shadow Spirit.

CC: How many bikes have you owned?
Erin: Two.

CC: How many bikes do you currently own?
Erin: Just one.

CC: What do you like most about your Tejas?
Erin: It’s a hardtail with a custom look. I’ve always wanted a hardtail and to build my own bike.

CC: What is your dream bike?
Erin: Actually, the bike I have now is. I love it! The fact that it’s faster than my husband’s Harley is great too.

CC: What is your most memorable riding experience?
Erin: Riding around Nevada, down the Las Vegas strip, through the Valley of Fire, and to the Laughlin River Run. There was plenty of great rides in Nevada and the weather is usually great as well, along with great scenery.

CC: What is your least memorable riding experience?
Erin: It wasn’t actually me on the bike, but my husband was drag racing his motorcycle and went through the finish line lights fighting a high-speed wobble. From where I was standing, his taillight looked to be about a mile wide. It scared the you-know-what out of me but he came out of it without crashing…thank God.

CC: To what motorcycle clubs and organizations do you belong?
Erin: None.

CC: Which motorcycle rallies & events have you attended and which is your favorite?
Erin: Bikers for Babies®, Toys for Tots and we attended the Laughlin River Run in 2004 and 2005. The Laughlin run would be my favorite because there are lots of things to do and see there.

CC: Which is your favorite bike night location?
Erin: We’ve been to several here in Kansas. They are all pretty fun and I enjoy seeing everyone’s different styles in motorcycling.

CC: Do you prefer riding in a group or by yourself?
Erin: Riding in a big group of friends is the best. We always have a good time no matter where we are going.

CC: Who are some of your closest riding buddies?
Erin: My husband, Stephanie and Darrel Fields, Joe Fasching, Rance and Jenny Quinn and Tim Courtney.

CC: Just for fun, which of your riding buddies is the best rider?
Erin: My husband. If I didn’t say that he’d be hard to live with. No, really, he is the best rider I know.

CC: Just for fun, which or your riding buddies is the worst rider?
Erin: I don’t think I can classify anyone I ride with as the worst.
