According to a recent report in Women Riders Now, the top selling motorcycle for women is the Harley-Davidson Sportster 883. It comes in two versions, the Super Low and the Iron, with the Super Low being the more popular version with women riders.

Harley-Davidson had seven models in WRN’s top 10 bikes for women. In the number 2 spot was the Street Glide, defying the myth that women only ride small bikes. Unsurprisingly, the Honda Rebel 250 made the list as it is the most popular beginner’s bike.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), women riders are statistically safer then their male counterparts. While the number of women riders now stands at 25% of all motorcycle riders, they represented only 9% of total fatalities in 2013; the latest year for published statistics. In the age group of 20-24, which has the largest number of total fatalities at 526, only 34, or 6% were women. For more statistics you can visit the IIHS here.
