Zoo Run Safari for Children's Bike Show/Raffle/Auction

Written by  December 1, 2018

On Saturday, November the 3rd, 2018, the American Legion Post # 107 in Leeds Alabama, along with Cycle Connections, hosted the inaugural "Zoo Run for Children's" Bike Show/ Raffle/ Auction, benefiting Children's of Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer & Blood Disorders.

The Bike Show was part 2 of the Zoo Run Safari for Children's event that was on September the 29th that hosted several Stars’ and their families from around the area. That was a day to give to those kids this one day to just be a kid, the bike show/raffle was to help us to bring in a little more in the way of donations for Children's of Alabama.

We were overwhelmed by the support we received from so many business's when we started the process of gathering donations and items for this raffle that we were able to use several of them as gifts to give to the families on the day of the ride, and this day, we got to raffle and auction off the rest.

It was a beautiful day, all be it a little cool when it started, it did warm up nicely, however, there were a few other things going on this day as well so the turn out for the bike show was much less than expected to say the least. Thankfully, there were those who pulled a double duty day and came by to be with us after their early morning event, which we appreciated very much, there was also an Alabama football game later in the afternoon, which really didn't affect us as it was on there at the post, cold brew and all!

The Central Alabama Food Truck Alliance supplied us with a Pizza truck and a Funnel Cake truck, so we all were fed very well and everyone really enjoyed that, just sorry they didn't have more people to feed.

The "Spyder" group that brought probably the largest group out for the ride with the kids had several of them to show up for the bike show as well, we love these guys!

We turned to Quality Trophy in Trussville once again to make the trophies for this bike show, no one else we would trust with that task as they make really nice QUALITY Trophies, with a marble base, making them quite hefty, and the flame columns and bikes on the top make them a highly sought after award. With the low turn out we had, we only got to give away about half of them.

Paula & Todd Swafford brought "Bumble Bee" (the car) out for us, we love seeing them and everyone LOVES that car, and the little transformers she sets out around him just complete the picture. way cool! But this time around, Todd also brought his bike and entered it into the show and took home the trophy for the "Touring" class!! Paula took home the "Fan Favorite Ride" trophy, as she does quite often, but this was Todd's very first with the bike. Congrats Todd and glad we could be your first! :-)

Congrats to Terry Jones with his "Harley" win and Chris Lang with his "Banging Bagger" win! And Charles Milligan took home the "Fan Favorite" trophy! Congrats to you all.

Charles also won the 50/50 draw that he so generously donated back to Children's of Alabama. We found out later, that Charles had his own battle with cancer so the cause was very close to his heart, and he really touched ours.

There were door prizes given away every 30 minutes after the show started registration, and continued on up until we started the raffle, so people were getting all kind of cool give-aways before we ever even got started! Cool things from: Next Levl game room with 8-V.I.P passes

REALLY ..WOW!!

Thanks to all of you who came out to show your love, support and your generosity to Children's of Alabama. And even though the turn out was low, we still managed to raise a little over $1,000, mostly generated by the booze raffle I'm sure, and that brought the total amount raised, including the ride to a little over $4,000 that we were able to present to Children's of Alabama and we look forward to doing it all over again next year!
