Jim Testerman and His 2009 Sucker Punch Sallys Custom Slim Bobber

January 31, 2010
Several weeks ago I received a phone call from Jim Testerman, one of our long time readers. Jim told me he had recently won a drawing for a Sucker Punch Sallys Custom Slim Bobber motorcycle that was given away at the Buffalo Chip Campground in Sturgis, South Dakota this past summer. As he described the bike, complete with a custom Buffalo Chip paint job I knew we had to shoot it for an upcoming cover. This isn't the first time we've shot one of Jim's bikes. A few years ago we featured Jim's all chromed Harley-Davidson Sportster on the cover…

Mike Bramble and His 2004 Bourget Fat Daddy Chopper

December 31, 2009
The first time I saw Mike Bramble's 2004 Bourget Fat Daddy Chopper was at this year's Bikers for Babies® RIDE in Kansas City, Kansas. Mike purchased the bike at Bike Week in Daytona, and as it turns out, the bike was originally built for Dee Snider, the lead singer of Twisted Sister. I'd been planning to shoot Mike's Bourget for our cover ever since I seen it, and last month the opportunity finally presented itself. During our photo shoot I asked Mike if I could also interview him for this month's Readers and Their Rides article and he was more…

Rick Conrad and His 1975 Harley-Davidson ShovelheadBy StripeLast Labor Day weekend, my long-time friend Zick rode down from Washington, Iowa, with a couple of his buddies to join me in attending the annual ABATE of Kansas rally at Perry Lake. The Iowa delegation included Rick 'Kookie' Conrad who made the trip on his '07 Harley Ultra Classic. I enjoyed hearing about this other bike, the '75 Shovelhead featured here. Kookie rebuilt the bike himself in his garage shop over a six-month period. Tony Sinclair and His 2008 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic

November 30, 2009
The first time I met Tony was at the 2009 All-American Motorcycle Show/World of Wheels in Kansas City, Missouri where he had his 2008 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic displayed next to his friend and custom bike painter Travis Caw, whose bike we shot for our December 2008 cover. I'd been planning to shoot Tony's bike ever since it took first place in the cruiser class at the Cycle Connections Cover Bike and Cover Model Search we put on this past March at Harley Hotrods Bar and Grill in Blue Springs, Missouri. We usually try to shoot a red custom bike for…

Ginger Pennington & Her 2008 Big Bear Choppers Miss Behavin ProStreet

September 30, 2009
The first time I met Ginger was at the photo studio when we shot her bike for our October 2009 cover; however, the first time I saw her bike was at the Cover Bike and Cover Model Search we held at Winslow's BBQ in Kansas City, Missouri where she and some of her friends had entered their bikes in our contest. Since we decided to go with a Halloween-type theme for the cover, Ginger's orange chopper fit the bill just perfectly! During our photo shoot I asked Ginger if I could interview her for this month's Readers & Their Rides…

Paul Evans & His 2007 Harley-Davidson Street Glide

March 31, 2009
I don't believe in coincidence or luck, so this past Thursday when I ran into Paul Evans while walking up the sidewalk to stand in line at City Hall to renew my motorcycle plates I simply chocked it up to fate. Apparently Paul had seen me get out of the Exxon Valdez (a.k.a. my Chevy Tahoe with the Cycle Connections logos on the side windows) and asked if I was with the magazine. I introduced myself and Paul told me he had entered his bike in the 2009 All-American Motorcycle Show/World of Wheels at Bartle Hall a few weeks earlier…

Noah and Missie Bedell and Their 1957 Harley-Davidson FL Panhead

October 31, 2008
I was walking through the bike show at the 2008 Bikers for Babies RIDE when one of the entries in the antique category caught my attention. It was a hardtail Harley Panhead and appeared to be in pretty much original condition. As I admired the bike, a young man walked up and began visiting with me about the gremlin Stripe airbrushed on the back of my vest. I soon found out that Noah and his wife Missie were the owners of the Panhead. I talked Noah into doing a 'Readers and Their Rides' interview and shot a few photos of…

Keith Gray and His 1998 Honda Valkyrie Patriot Bike

January 31, 2008
I first heard about Keith's bike through a good friend of mine Ben Kelly a.k.a. Squirrel, who is a member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association and a member of the Patriot Guard Riders as well as a US Navy reservist. I first met Keith at the staging area in Ottawa, Kansas while riding a mission for SPC Michael Brown with the Patriot Guard Riders. After taking a look at his bike I knew Ben was right. This bike has to be one for our readers at Cycle Connections to check out. So without further ado let’s get right into…

Kurtis Brannum and His 1999 Harley-Davidson Road King Custom

January 31, 2008
After running into my good old friend Kurtis Brannum on one of those 60 degree days we occasionally get here in the Midwest in the middle of winter, I suggested to Kurtis that we need to get out and take a ride to talk about past events! 11 years ago Kurtis was working for a national trucking company where he was responsible for parking tractor trailers in tight spaces such as the limestone caves here in Missouri. What impressed me more about him was the way he did his job and lined up these trailers with ease, which even made…
