Readers and their Rides

Nancy Scheiterle & Her 2013 Honda Fury

Written by  May 30, 2015

A couple weeks ago, I received an e-mail from one of our readers namedNancy Scheiterle, asking if we could send her copies of our February 2015 cover. Nancy informed me that she had recently purchased the 2013 Honda Fury featured on that month’s cover, which was the Biker Build-Off Winner at Shawnee Cycle Plaza from their Team Building Competition we covered back in November 2014.

This is such a beautiful bike, and I could tell from the excitement in Nancy’s voice, that she was rightfully proud of her new purchase. Therefore, I asked her if we could gather more information about her so we could feature her and new bike in the Readers & Their Rides section of this month’s issue, and she was more than happy to oblige.

Below is the information we gathered from Nancy, along with some additional information about her awesome bike:

CC: Nancy, what is your occupation?
Nancy: I’m a branch manager in the hydraulics business.

CC: Do you have hobbies other than motorcycling?
Nancy: Yes, besides riding my street bike and riding my dirt bike, I also like hanging out with my family and friends.

CC: Why do you ride?
Nancy: I enjoy the freedom of mind it gives me, and the pure joy of it all.

CC: How long have you been riding?
Nancy: On and off since 1994 on dirt bikes, and about 11 years on the street.

CC: What was your first bike?
Nancy: My first street bike was a 2004 Honda Shadow 600.

CC: How many bikes have you owned?
Nancy: Four.

CC: How many bikes do you own now?
Nancy: I currently have two bikes. My 2013 Honda Fury, and a 2004 Yamaha YZ250.

CC: What do you like most about your Fury?
Nancy: It’s perfect, and it rides and handles great! The guys at Shawnee Cycle Plaza did a great job on this bike.

CC: What is your dream bike?
Nancy: This is it. Just look at the pic and close your eyes. It rides as sweet as it looks!

CC: What is your most memorable riding experience?
Nancy: Riding through a herd of buffalo at Custer State Park and seeing my old man almost get charge by a momma buffalo. The pipes on his Harley are loud, so it scared her back into the field.

CC: What is your least memorable riding experience?
Nancy: Getting sick on the way home from Sturgis, and having go ride sick – luckily that was before I had my own bike and had to ride as a passenger behind the old man. It’s not easy knapping on the back of a bike, but it can be done.

CC: To what motorcycle clubs or organizations do you belong?
Nancy: None right now – every so often my husband joins ABATE. When I got my first Shadow I was enrolled in the Red Riders Club by Honda for a couple of years.

CC: What motorcycle rallies & events have you attended, and which is your favorite?
Nancy: Sturgis, the Freedom Rally in Iowa, and the ABATE Labor Day. My favorite is ABATE. Why, you ask? Because what happens at ABATE, stays at ABATE. LOL.

CC: Do you have a favorite bike night hangout?
Nancy: The Red Eye on State Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas. We always see old friends there, and Kim has great bands.

CC: Do you have any tattoos?
Nancy: Yes, I have three. I have one on my right calf, which is a sunshine face. On my left bicep that says “Snafi,” with a heart and curly lines. This is my favorite, in honor of my dad, who called me Snafi as a kid. My third one, only my hubby sees. LOL

CC: Do you have a favorite tattoo artist?
Nancy: East Coast Al. He’s done two of my tats, and one for my daughter. They are all very detailed and beautiful. The man has talent.

CC: Do you prefer riding in a group or by yourself?
Nancy: I prefer riding with my hubby in small groups. I always enjoy riding with someone else. It’s fun to feed off other’s fun and enjoyment.

CC: Who are some of your closest riding buddies?
Nancy: My hubby is my number one riding buddy. We’ve been on countless trips tighter. I also enjoy riding with my girlfriend Angie.

CC: Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Nancy: My brother let me ride his dirt bike when I was 12 years old, and that’s when I fell in love with motorcycles. At 16, I rode a boyfriend’s 250 Ossa bike, and was then off for a number of years. I then met my husband in 1986. He’s always ridden and raced motocross, so he let me ride his dirt bikes. He’s been my teacher, mechanic, and great friend for a very long time. He just retired last year from racing. I guess he figure that after winning the 50 and over class for the last four years in a row, maybe it was time to retire. He’s the real deal, and I’m very proud of him. With his knowledge of riding and coaching, I’ve become a very confident rider.

CC: Thank you for the interview Nancy, and I’m sure you’re going to love your Fury!
