Mike Johnson

For as long as I can remember, any time I attended a charity ride in the Kansas City area, I could count on seeing Mike Johnson. At many events, especially those sponsored by the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.), Mike was a hard-working volunteer. I was recently saddened to learn of Mike’s passing after a long illness. Along with his family and a host of friends and fellow riders, I will miss him greatly.

Mike’s obituary from the December 28, 2007, Kansas City Star:

Michael Lee Johnson, 58, of Merriam, KS, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2007 at home with his sister by his side. Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon, Monday, December 31, 2007 at the McGilley & Hoge Funeral Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS with Military Honors. Friends may call from 11:00 until service time Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Wayside Waifs. Michael was born August 6, 1949 in Kansas City, MO, the son of George and June Johnson. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the Marines. An active member of the Greater KC Chapter HOG Group, he supported Wayside Waifs, Putts for Mutts and Toys for Tots. He was a member of the United States Bowling Congress, bowling for the 'Explosion' Team. He had bowled a 300 game and a 299 game. Michael had worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for over 30 years. Survivors include his sisters: Christy Huneke of Clearwater, FL and Cindy Lee of the KC area; aunt: Esther Lee Mischler of Clearwater, FL; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his dogs Harley, Davey and Brutus.
