Our March 2016 cover bike is owned by Troy "Mongo" Phillips, and we enjoyed shooting his 2005 Harley-Davidson Road King for this month’s cover. Mongo is from Kansas City, Missouri, and we had the opportunity to gather additional information about him and his bike. We also had fun shooting cover model Melissa on Mongo’s bike for this month’s cover. I’m sure you’ll also enjoy this month’s behind the scenes photos and video!

CC: Do you have hobbies other than motorcycling?
Mongo: Yes. I also enjoy hunting and restoring my 56’ Chevy.

CC: Why do you ride?
Mongo: I love the freedom and traveling.

CC: How long have you been riding?
Mongo: I’ve been riding more than 11 years, and the last 11 years on the same bike.

CC: What was your first bike?
Mongo: My first bike was a Suzuki Seca II. I know, I know…the bike sucked, but I was young and broke.

CC: How many bikes have you owned?
Mongo: I’ve owned two motorcycles.

CC: How many bikes do you currently own?
Mongo: One, the one you’re looking at.

CC: What do you like most about El Bragas Gotero?
Mongo: The old school look.

CC: What is your dream bike?
Mongo: My dream bike is a 1947 Flathead. I love the old school style.

CC: What is your most memorable riding experience?
Mongo: Riding on the beaches in Florida. The look on the faces of the kids building sandcastles was priceless!

CC: What is your least memorable riding experience?
Mongo: Riding in a hailstorm. I don’t recommend it.

CC: Which motorcycle rallies & events have you attended?
Mongo: Sturgis,SD, Daytona Bike Week, Bikes, Blues & BBQ in Fayetteville, AR. Fayetteville is my favorite, because of the rides and the people.

CC: Do you have any tattoos?
Mongo: Yes, I have one on my right arm.

CC: Do you have a favorite tattoo artist?
Mongo: Yes, Brent Wilhelm at Revelation Tattoos. I don’t have a lot, but his work is sick!

CC: Do you prefer riding in a group or by yourself?
Mongo: I like both, depending on the day.

CC: Who are some of your closest riding buddies?
Mongo: Butch, Outlaw, New Guy, Flapp, Childers, Prather, Slim, and Barnett.

CC: Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Mongo: My bike is not some one-off build, and I’m in no way a custom bike builder. I customized the bike eight years ago, and she is no trailer queen or garaged special show bike. I like to ride, and my girl and I have been down a lot of highways, backroads, and quite a few gravel roads. She has her scratches and dents that only comes from putting miles on, but so do I. I’ve contemplated building a newer bike with a bigger motor and fresher paint, but I can’t bring myself to make her number two to another bike.

CC: Thanks for the interview Mongo, and thank you for letting us shoot your bike for this month’s cover.
